Yeni Mao, Campeche @Material Guadalajara, 2025
The first body of works by Yeni Mao [@yenimao] consists of material hybrids made from volcanic stone and bronze, cast together in a single pour. The fusion of these two materials raises questions about permanence and the mutable nature of matter. These sculptures embody a form of “frozen fluidity,” balancing geological time with the deliberate temporality of handcrafted production.
In the second group, Mao introduces elements of diverse origins under a framework of controlled disruption, exploring tensions between the organic and the constructed through the integration of animal skins with steel structures. The artist merges industrial frameworks with the motif of the serpent, functioning here as an emblem of embodiment, transformation, and cyclical renewal — articulating a dialogue between the living organism and mechanical architecture.
